New Delhi, September 18, 2015: In a function held at SCOPE, Steel Authority of India Ltd.'s (SAIL) Director (Finance), Sh. Anil K. Chaudhary, Director (Technical), Sh S.S. Mohanty and Director (Commercial), Sh Binod Kumar felicitated SAIL employees who have won 15 out of the total 28 prestigious Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP) for the performance year 2013. Out of the total 132 awardees, 86 awardees are from SAIL, who claimed majority of the awards. The Vishwakarma Rashtriya Awards are a public recognition of outstanding achievements and innovations on the part of the workers in increasing productivity, quality, safety, working conditions, etc. The awards are given to individuals belonging to Industrial Undertakings both in the public and private sector. Earlier Hon'ble Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), Shri Bandaru Dattatreya presented the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP) to the awardees at a special ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan on September, 17, 2015.
It is noteworthy that the estimated annual savings resulting from implementation of the innovative works mentioned in SAIL's award winning projects are approximately over Rs 117.12 crores (Recurring) & Rs 86.39 crores (One time). Awardees of SAIL plants included employees from Bhilai Steel Plant, Bokaro Steel Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant and Salem Steel Plant.
On this occasion, the SAIL Directors lauded the award winners and said, "SAIL believes that the talent of its people is company's greatest asset. Each one of you has been reaffirming this commitment to our innovative potential year after year." They expressed happiness over SAIL employees winning 65% of VRP awards 2013, which is a big achievement in itself. They congratulated all awardees for their exemplary contribution and commitment. During the course of the event, a booklet titled, "limpse of Award Winning Projects" was also released by the SAIL Directors and senior officials.
About Vishwakarma Puraskar:
Instituted by the Government of India in 1965, the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar is a national award given every year by the Ministry of Labour in association with the Directorate General, Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes. The award is applicable for workers employed in the factories & docks. The accepted applications are evaluated by both Internal and External Evaluation Committees consisting of Three Experts in each with specialization in Mechanical Engineering. /Production Engineering./ Industrial Engineering./Electrical Engineering/Chemical Engineering./Ergonomics/Environmental Engineering & General Management. The applications were evaluated by both the Committees and were adjudged by a Tripartite Awards Committee appointed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
