Mr. Vijay Kumar Gulhati has assumed office as Director (Technical) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Prior to this, he was Executive Director Incharge (Projects & Special Steels), SAIL.
Mr. Gulhati (57) joined SAIL's Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) in 1972 after completing his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. Over the next 31 years, while working in different capacities in the Operations and Maintenance functions, he honed his technical expertise in a vast number of areas including iron ore sintering, handling and processing of bulk raw material, and integrated steel plant maintenance. As Executive Director (Personnel & Administration) of DSP during 2003-06, his long Works experience was further enriched in HR management, and this helped him ably discharge his duties as Incharge of DSP during the last six months of this tenure.
In 2006, Mr. Gulhati was transferred to SAIL's Corporate Office as Executive Director (Business Planning) with responsibilities that included business development for the company, mergers & acquisitions, raw material resource development, information technology and quality assurance. In May 2007, he took over as Executive Director Incharge (Projects) with the responsibility of implementing all expansion and modernisation schemes under SAIL's Corporate Plan-2010. He also looked after SAIL's special steels plants at Durgapur, Salem and Bhadravati during this period.
Mr. Gulhati's management skills have been heightened through training at a number of premier institutions and steel plants in India and abroad. He has visited a number of countries all over the world in the course of his career to present technical papers as well.
