Two iron ore mines and one limestone mine of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) have received National Safety Awards for their commendable performance in maintaining the safety standard in the mines. Hon'ble president of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil gave away the awards in a function held for giving the National Safety Award (Mines) -2004, '05 and '06, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi today.
SAIL's Kiriburu Iron Ore Mine, Kalta Iron Mine, and Kuteshwar Limestone Mines, which are operating under the Raw Materials Division of SAIL, have received the awards. Company's Director (Personnel and In-Charge RMD), Mr. G. Ojha, and Executive Director, RMD, Mr. K. Kapoor were present on the occasion.
Kiriburu Iron Ore Mine bagged two awards for the Longest Accident Free Period (LAFP) consecutively for 2004 and 2005. For Lowest Injury Frequency Rate (LIFR) Kalta Iron Mine received two awards consecutively for 2005 and 2006, and in the same category Kuteshwar Limestone Mine bagged one award for the year 2005.
On behalf of the Kiriburu Iron Ore Mine, Mr. K. Maity, General Manager, Mr. B Tiwary, Mining Mate and Mr. B. K. L. Das, Mines-foreman received the awards. Mr. T K Guha Roy, General Manger, Kalta Iron Mine, along with Mr. R. Nigam, Mines Manager; Mr. K. K. Garnayak and Mr. S. Nayak, both Foreman received the awards. Mr H. S. Prasad, General Manager, and Mr. G. Singh, Mines-foreman received the award for Kuteshwar Limestone Mine.
Later In the afternoon, SAIL's Director (Personnel and In-Charge RMD), Mr. G. Ojha congratulated and felicitated the team for winning the awards.
To promote the competitive spirit amongst mine operators for the betterment of safety standards in mines and give due recognition to outstanding performance at the national level, the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India instituted the National Safety Award (Mines). This time more than 600 units from Coal, Metal and Oil sectors were in the fray for this award.
