Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) will award Rs. 5 lakh to 25-year-old Shri Abhinav Bindra for winning India's first gold medal in the individual shooting event at the Beijing Olympics today. "This is a great honour for our country and a matter of pride for all Indians, and will enthuse our sports fraternity to bring more such laurels," said Shri S.K. Roongta, Chairman, SAIL.
SAIL has been nurturing a large number sports and sportspersons since its inception through its sports academies, regular sports camps and training programmes, and financial support in the form of scholarships, etc. The company has set up modern sports infrastructure at all its main plant locations. Besides, SAIL is one of the biggest sponsors of sporting events at the national and international levels.
SAIL is currently developing two wrestlers, Shri Yogeswar Dutt and Shri Sushil Kumar, for participation in the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi in 2010. Shri Dutt and Shri Kumar are part of the Indian contingent to the Beijing Olympics. The SAIL collective wishes them the very best for success in their respective events.
