Mr. Shesh Narayna Singh has assumed charge as the Managing Director of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Prior to this he was Executive Director (Works) at Durgapur Steel Plant, SAIL.
Mr. Singh completed his B.Sc (Engg.) in Mechanical from Kanpur University and joined RSP in 1972 as a Junior Engineer. Over the next 30 years, he had a successful stint in various areas of operation like Heavy Maintenance and Capital Repairs at Bokaro Steel Plant, before being transferred to Corporate Office as Additional Director in IISCO cell in the year 2002. In July 2004 he was posted as General Manager (Mechanical) at Bokaro Steel Plant, where he later headed the Mechanical zone. Soon after, Mr. Singh was made GM Incharge of Iron and Steel zone. In October, 2006 he was promoted and posted as ED (MM), Bhilai Steel Plant. In November 2007 he was posted as ED (Works) in DSP.
Mr. Singh has an IIIE degree from Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers. He has undergone extensive training in USSR and Australia on various aspects of Blast Furnace Capital Repairs and installation of Bell-less top. He has visited Italy, France and Switzerland as part of the Advance Management Program, arranged by Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI).
A brilliant technocrat, Mr. Singh was instrumental in the installation of 24 tuyeres in place of 20 tuyeres in Blast Furnace 5 of Bokaro Steel Plant, for the first time in the country. He planned and executed over 20 capital repairs, relining of Blast Furnaces and also provided help during BF Repairs of Durgapur, Bhilai and Rourkela Steel Plants. In the area of SMS, Mr. Singh has the distinction of organizing the changing of 100 tons converter shell in one piece as well as institute repairs of trunion shaft. While in slabbing mill, he has the experience of main stand capital repairs and shear changing. As Additional Director, IISCO Cell at Corporate Office, Mr.Singh contributed significantly in implementation of revival package of IISCO. The strategies adopted by him had contributed significantly in the turnaround of IISCO.
