Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has received the first prize in two categories ÔÇô ÔÇÿDesign & ConceptÔÇÖ and ÔÇÿTechnology in Minerals, Metals, Metallurgy & MaterialsÔÇÖ ÔÇô of the 6th International Expo & Conference on Minerals, Metals, Metallurgy and Materials held at Pragati Maidan here from 11th to 14th September 2006. The award, presented by Dr. Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, was given for innovatively showcasing steel products and technology in the SAIL pavilion. With this, SAIL has achieved the distinction of winning the first prize five consecutive times in this biennial event. More than 175 companies from all over the world participated in the expo.
The SAIL pavilion designed on the theme of ÔÇÿSAIL: On Wings of SteelÔÇÖ was appreciated by visitors and exhibitors from India and abroad.
Models of steel making processes such as pouring of hot metal into a converter and continuous casting were a part of the pavilion design. A model of an aircraft carrier, referring to the supply of DMR 249A grade plates by SAIL for Indian Navy warships, was also on show. IndiaÔÇÖs map, showcasing in detail the steel sector, including steel plants, mines, and ports, was appreciated for being informative and educative, especially for the foreign participants/visitors.
