Chairman, SAIL, Mr. C.S. Verma has been conferred with the IIM - JRD Tata Award for "Excellence in Corporate leadership in Metallurgical Industries" for the year 2014. In a glittering ceremony held in Pune on 14th November, 2014, attended by a large number of eminent industry leaders, Mr. Verma was presented with a scroll of honour along with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh by Hon'ble Minister of Mines & Steel, Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar.
Addressing a large number of delegates on the occasion, Mr. Tomar said that China has made investments as per a pre planned programme and foreseen possibilities much in advance. He also spoke about increasing the R&D spent to emerge as a global market leader. He also apprised the audience that the government will soon be making a research center where all steel companies in India will contribute for carrying out path breaking research. He also talked about forming Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) in Ore rich states and de-bottle necking of clearances and transparency in mining through the new MMDR plan which is being revised.
Mr. C.S. Verma in his acceptance speech dedicated the coveted award to the SAIL workforce which through their dedication, hard work and passion empowered him, to achieve milestones year after year. Mr. Verma is the first Chairman from SAIL to receive this honour and is amongst an illustrious list of winners who have been conferred with this award earlier.
The IIM - JRD Tata Award for "Excellence in Corporate leadership in Metallurgical Industries", was instituted by Tata Steel Ltd. in 2007, the Centenary year of Tata Steel and Diamond Jubilee year of the Indian Institute of Metals. The award has so far been given to industry champions like Mr. Ratan N Tata and Dr. E. Sreedharan to name a few.
