In its endeavor to contribute to the welfare of the country's Defence personnel, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) today donated a motivational / training van to the War Wounded Foundation (WWF), a registered charitable society incorporated in 2002, which aims to generate long-term self-employment avenues for war-wounded Defence personnel in their own villages/places of residence. Director (Personnel)/SAIL Shri G. Ojha flagged off the van in the presence of Lt. General (Retd) Vijay Oberoi, Director (Commercial)/SAIL Shri Shoeb Ahmed, Director (Technical)/SAIL Shri V.K Gulhati and other senior SAIL officials in a small function held at Ispat Bhavan, New Delhi.
The van, equipped with different teaching aids like computer with printer and other accessories, overhead projector, video camera, DVD/VCD, TV set, sound system, etc., will assist WWF to travel across the country to locate war-disabled personnel and train and motivate them to become 'soldier entrepreneurs'.
Committed to bringing development and growth in every corner of the country, SAIL spent around Rs. 120 crore on corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives during 2007-08. In recognition of its CSR initiatives, SAIL has received numerous awards including the prestigious FICCI Award for 'Rural and Community Development Initiatives', presented by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India this year.
