Peripheral Development
Bokaro Steel is striving to reach the glow and warmth of its furnaces to people living at the periphery of this thriving steel city. All villages and residential settlements within a radius of 20 kilometres are covered under the peripheral development programmes that benefit some 3 lakh persons. In recent years, the stress has been on developing basic and infrastructure facilities like roads, bridges, schools, primary healtch centres, wells, pumps etc. and renovating the existing facilities.

Central Marketing Organisation
SAIL's marketing set-up, the ISO 9001:2015 certified Central Marketing Organisation, is India's largest industrial marketing set-up.
SAIL Refractory Unit (SRU)
Erstwhile Bharat Refractories Limited, carved out in 1978 from the then Bokaro Steel Limited under Hindustan Steel Limited as a public enterprise under the Steel Ministry, was merged with SAIL on April 1, 2007 to become SAIL Refractory Unit (SRU). With its rich experience of decades, SRU is today one of the largest manufacturers of refractories in India. The unit, with an annual turnover exceeding `350 crores, serves SAIL through its extensive manufacturing and marketing network, which employs around 1,600 people.
Central Coal Supply Organization
Central Coal Supply Organization (CCSO) is situated in Dhanbad District of Jharkhand and has branch offices at Kolkata, Asansol, Adra and Bilaspur.
Mines
SAIL is the India’s third largest iron ore producer with a network of 15 iron ore mines in the States of Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, under the administrative control of BSL, RSP and BSP respectively and cater to 100 % requirement of SAIL Steel Plants. SAIL also has 4 Coal Mines and 3 Flux Mines.
In 2024-25, SAIL produced 33.78 MT iron ore, 0.59 MT coking coal, 0.84 MT thermal coal (including middling & jhama), 1.31 MT limestone, 0.40 MT dolomite.
Environment Management Division
ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT DIVISION (EMD)
EMD was set up on 23rd June, 1988 as a corporate unit of SAIL and located at Kolkata, with the objective for sound management of environment as well as promotion of sustainable environment management practices across all plants/units and mines of the company.
R&D Centre for Iron and Steel
The Research & Development Centre for Iron & Steel (RDCIS) at Ranchi is the corporate R&D unit of SAIL. Set up in 1972, the Centre has ISO: 9001 certification to its credit. It undertakes R&D projects in diverse realms of Iron & Steel Technology under the categories of Plant Performance Improvement (PPI), Product Development (PD), Scientific Investigation and Development (SID), Basic Research (BR) and Technical Services (TS).
