Particulars of ASP’s organisation, functions and duties:
Alloy Steels Plant (ASP) was set up in January 1965 under Hindustan Steel Limited, now Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). ASP is an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) based alloy & special steels producer. The plant is equipped with EAFs, VAD, VOD, AOD Converter, Ladle Furnaces, Continuous Casting Machine, Blooming & Billet Mill (900mm Roughing Mill, 700mm Billet Mill & 650mm Finishing Stands), Forge Shop with a 2,000 T Hydraulic Press & Hammers of 5T/2T capacities, Plate Mill, Conditioning and Heat Treatment facilities. ASP is a unique special steels producer having both stainless steel as well as non-stainless steel making facilities under one roof.
ASP is located at Durgapur in Paschim Burdwan district of West Bengal around 175 KM from Kolkata, along the Howrah-Delhi Main Railway line & Grand Trunk Road (National Highway-19).
The plant is headed by Executive Director (ED) who manages the business of the Company and reports to Director I/c (Burnpur & Durgapur Steel Plant). The respective Functional Heads like, Head of Projects, Head of Works, Head of Materials Management, Head of Personnel & Administration, Head of Finance & Accounts report to Executive Director, ASP.
The main function of ASP’s are:
To carry on in India and elsewhere the business of manufacturing, selling and exporting in the field of all grades of Alloy and special steels.
